1962 Supreme Court Decision Ignited A Culture War in the U.S.

In the Deseret News, a secondary headliner reads, "1962 Supreme Court Decision Ignited A Culture War in the U.S." Nice headline, false sentiment. All nascent mono-cultural societies inevitably go through the same "culture war" as either time, immigration, and population growth diversifies the personal conscience choices. The culture wars start when those of different ideologies bump up against those who had always had it their way and never saw the differences cropping up before their eyes.

The true strength of a democracy is not that they are homogeneous, but that they develop and abide by the mechanism they set up to mediate between competing interests.  Courts do not bring controversies to be decided. People present them. Courts must work right, and strive to resolve the conflict consistent with the law and the civil rights set forth in our Constitution and its Bill of Rights – all with the knowledge that not everyone will be pleased. That is the nature of highly functioning, free societies.
