The Question of “Mine” and “Ours”

It's all a question of "mine" and "ours." If something is truly "mine," I can do with it whatever I desire, so long as the activity in so doing does not harmfully affect what is "yours," nor "ours," nor over that which I have come to take responsibility.  If something is "ours," then we must sit and determine what is the best way to preserve what is "ours" for the greatest good. In the grand scheme of things, the only thing that is truly "mine" is this flesh, this blood, this soul, this heart – and then, only to the extent I have preserved its singularity and independence.

Everything else is on loan (some to a greater extent than others), because it is the best way to arrange our affairs for the greatest good of all. I don't own, as "mine," this home, this land, this Utah, this country, this world, nor this universe(s). No one person, no one entity owns, as "theirs," the air, the water, the oil, or the many life forms of earth. If he, she, or it possesses and controls, it is only because their stewardship is the best arrangement for the greatest good for all. And when (because of a change in circumstances) such arrangements no longer serve the greatest good for the greatest number of souls, and there is a better way, then it is time to sit, occupy this space together in unity, and harmonize our stewardships.

It was different when there was a handful. Then, it was different when there was  a thousand, then a million, then a billion, then four billion, then eight billion. And so it will be when there are 15 billion.

While "God" may not have said what the limits of any arrangement for the greatest good may be, there is a limit, and "God" will speak. The choice before us is whether it will be a still small voice or a turbulent, engulfing roar.
