Litmus Test Of Romney and Gingrich

Here's the litmus question for Romney:  If he (instead of Levi Savage) were deciding whether to suffer with the Mormon pioneers in the Willie and Martin Handcart companies as they attempted to cross the plains against his advice, would he throw his lot in with them, or would he do the prudent thing and wait out the winter in the Cayman Islands? My gut tells me he is no Levi Savage.

Here's the litmus test for Newt:  If he became president, would he – without probable cause – investigate or conduct an IRS audit of a political enemy or foe, or a member of the press who crossed him? My gut tells me Newt’s ego is so big, and his sense of entitlement is so great, he would act vindictively against his enemies. He is Richard Nixon in a pasty-white, blow-up toy costume.

Unfortunately, there are good Republicans who would pass both tests, but the radical wing of the party wants someone with a slash-and-burn policy.

Every dictator, who has ever taken power, first vilified those like the media (whose job it was to call a dictator on his/her evil designs before assuming power) and ordered them quietly taken away and disappeared. Be wary of those who take the focus off their perceived or actual weaknesses and who do not humbly, but arrogantly, rebut such accusations or inquiries. Be wary of those who attack and kill the messenger of bad news, or of those who are expected to expose the underbelly of those who seek the highest ranks of power.
