Don’t Forgive Political Hypocrisy

Don't forgive hypocrisy simply because it occurs in the emotional context of a campaign or a political struggle. Seek and support leaders who can, on the one hand, speak with probity, verity, and diplomacy, and can also connect their well-thought-out comments and policies to its emotional underpinnings. (Unfortunately, we didn't have a candidate like that, except one whose message was a little too distant from our polity.)

Reject leaders who are loose cannons who vomit anything that comes into their heads and then into their Twitter accounts, or in a speech, just because they think that they are the oracle of God incarnate, and therefore all of their effluence is manna from heaven to be consumed without question, introspection, or discernment.

On the other hand, recognize that politicians should speak from their hearts so we know who they are, so that hopefully when they reveal themselves to be despotic, vile, injudicious miscreants, we can reject them.

Unfortunately, the most damning thing about the ascension of Donald Trump to the presidency is that he did just that: revealed himself as a vile despot. However, because he cloaked himself in the trappings that personified the dis-empowered and the rights' fear, prejudices, and most emotional misgivings, they elected him. Unfortunately, if all of this is allowed to take its course, we are going to reap the whirlwind that will most assuredly devastate this country.
