Mark my words: Statements are being made and actions are being taken by our top-elected officials that will likely lead to the least responsible in our government taking the brunt of the harm in the price of blood and life.
Don't forget the “cause and effect” of leadership. The phrase, "Loose lips sink ships," was beat into me in the military. "Loose lips" are not always those that reveal state secrets, but are also those that say intemperate things like, "We should take their oil,” which gives our leaders a “license” to act above the law, and gives our enemies and potential enemies cause to rightly or wrongly impute that our intentions are malevolent.
Conflicts arise when immature, inexperienced, greedy, intemperate, and despotic leaders use our youth as tools for their enrichment. We must hold these leaders accountable.
Unfortunately, we still live in a world where it is the foot soldier, the common man, the non-royalty, and the non-officer that is not only the fodder for the battle, but the one subjected to the brunt of harm for the punishment as a vanquished, or as the person or persons who carried out the unlawful orders.
We should not repeat one of the lessons learned in the Vietnam War: Foot Soldiers, Patrol Officers, and First Responders do not substitute for the leaders that ordered them into harm’s way. They do not deserve our censure, but our compassion.
