I told my family that I really didn't need anything for Christmas, except their good company. Then, I went shopping for just one gift. Within fifteen minutes (and only a few stores), I discovered I “needed” so many things.
I had to get out of there fast, before the things I “needed” got chained to my body. By the time I was leaving the store for my car, I could barely drag that “chain of needs” behind me.
Thank God for the combustion engine! After I struggled into my car, and with great effort, pulled that chain of needs in with me, I started the engine and sped away. I never would have made it home without my speedy car. I just worry about all the people who didn't get out in time!
