When God Speaks

I have resisted writing this, but cannot–because god (President Trump) has spoken. Although he is not the one to whom his disciples claim to pray, he is the one to whom they prostrate, and upon whom they pretend to expect what he and they will never deliver.

While I have never been more content in my life, and positive in my outlook, I must protest that I am so saddened by this day. My country has, at the very least, chosen a vulgar, intemperate demagogue who is careening into insanity, or at the worst, a despot who views himself as God and demands our obeisance.

They have chosen a hollow shell, who possesses nothing of substance in his heart, soul, or mind.

They have chosen a facade, who has draped himself in supermodel flesh, blood diamonds, bankruptcy gold, a paparazzi-leveraged trademark, a house of cards for the corporate kings and queens, and a romance-novel-crafted history.

They have chosen not a man to champion their best natures, but a man to inflict their worst nightmares upon their enemies and opponents.

They have chosen not a man who speaks of the charity of their hearts, but a man who voices the aspirations of their vaulted vices.

They have chosen not a man to inspire all, but a man to exalt the few at the expense of the many.

They have chosen a man who embodies the greed of their selfish desires and their self-righteous, secret, unspoken belief that the ends justify whatever means are necessary to impose their will upon all who show the slightest nonconformity, or who refuse to accept their "place" in the world.
