At the Utah State Bar's summer convention, Utah Supreme Court Justice Durrant said: 1) that tort cases make up only two percent of all case filings; 2) that 0.2 percent of all judgments are over $500,000; 3) that some 90 percent of all judgments are less than $25,000; 4) that only 0.2 percent of all cases involve a jury; 5) that 96 percent of all trials are bench trials; and 6) that half of those bench trials are in justice courts, with an average verdict of $1800.
