Keeping It Clean

The family-film-oriented Park City International Film Festival was insightful and entertaining.  As you might guess, films with a sexual theme or potty dialogue were not allowed. It's a legitimate choice. I respect that.

Nevertheless, never loose sight of the fact that most people who don't "curse" don’t do it because they chose to avoid the baggage that sometimes goes along with the cursing. After all, it is the emotion, meaning, and call to action that makes a swear word a swear word--not the letters, syllables, or sounds of the word.

However, if that baggage is attached to some other euphemism, like “heck,” or “darn it,” or “friggin’,” what's the difference?  Not much. So don't get sanctimonious by not “swearing” when you're abusing or disrespecting your kids, spouse, friends, or enemies.  Your alternative choice of words is not somehow superior to those who chose to use all the words within the human language.
