Today, I Lived Like a King

I got up a little later than I usually do, because I didn’t have to worry if I would have something to eat, if I would lose my job, if my home would get bombed, or if I, or those I loved, would be murdered by my government, a foreign government, or a criminal syndicate.

I splurged a little and made banana bread waffles. Then I worked, partly because I have to, and also because I want to. It’s my choice.

I skipped lunch to make up for breakfast, worked until 6:30, gathered a few roses from the yard to bring inside, ate a dinner of salmon and freshly cooked vegetables, reconnected with Netflicks for a bit, stared at a peach sunset, worked out at Vasa, noticed that the Golden State Warriors had lived up to their hype, and drove home (with all the windows down in my car and the sunroof open) through a community, a city, a state, and a nation that made it possible for me to live as a king among a million others just like me.

This is not only because of those who have fought to create, preserve, and protect my liberty, but because of all who honor, live, and proclaim what they fought for:  a community and nation that respects the liberty, freedom, and rights of all people, everywhere.

Notwithstanding, we still have work to do to make sure everyone can live like a king.
