When we, in the United States, are faced with the prospect of saving either a 94-million-dollar plane or the pilot, we will demand that it be the pilot.
When we, in the United States, are faced with the prospect of either saving an acre of land that supports an endangered species or gaining several thousands of dollars in development money, we will demand that the acre be preserved from development.
However, in the coming months, during the Trump Presidency, what will we save?
When we are faced with the prospect of either profiting by several thousands of dollars from conflict-raw materials or saving the lives of several non-Americans in foreign lands, what will we choose? When we are faced with either securing raw materials for a few thousand computers or working to preserve essential habitat, what will we desire? What will we protect when we are faced with bio-diversity (here or abroad) that may yield some essential medication or provide indispensable ecosystem for a foreign-endangered species in future generations?
Will we revert to the ugly Americans we have been in the past?
